Na Františku Hospital has opened a new plastic surgery department

Na Františku Hospital has a new inpatient plastic surgery ward. The total cost of its construction amounted to 5.7 million crowns. The ward features five rooms, including two deluxe rooms, and a new procedure room for outpatient surgeries.

“The new plastic surgery facilities were built in accordance with modern medical standards and offer greater comfort and better organization of care, as most of the department’s activities are now concentrated in one location,” said David Erhart, director of Na Františku Hospital.

Of the total cost of building the ward, 4.5 million crowns went toward construction work. The remaining 1.2 million crowns, provided by the hospital’s founding authority—the Prague 1 municipal district—covered the purchase of new beds, vital signs monitors, and an operating light for the procedure room.

“As the hospital’s governing body, we are continuing to implement the approved development plan for 2024–2028. The new plastic surgery department is located in the space formerly occupied by the anesthesiology and resuscitation department, which is now housed in another part of the complex. The project thus fits naturally into the overall revitalization process of Na Františku Hospital,” said Michal Müller, Prague 1 Councilor for Health.

Plastic surgery here encompasses not only cosmetic procedures but also those with significant health benefits. “The hospital has the largest center for the treatment of breast disease in Prague, where a large number of breast cancer surgeries are performed. The construction of new facilities for the plastic surgery department is therefore a natural extension of the care provided to these patients,” added Erhart.

The department performs both procedures covered by health insurance and cosmetic procedures that patients pay for out of pocket. “The most common procedures include breast reconstruction following cancer, abdominoplasty, liposuction, and breast augmentation and reduction. On an outpatient basis, we perform minor procedures, such as the removal of skin tumors, hand surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome or trigger finger, and eyelid corrections,” said Josef Kulhánek, head of the plastic surgery department.

All rooms in the new ward are equipped with electrically adjustable beds, refrigerators, televisions, Wi-Fi, and furniture. Two deluxe rooms have private bathrooms. The ward has a capacity of nine beds.
