Our Story and Mission
Our hospital, founded in 1354 with the participation of Archbishop Arnošt of Pardubice and subsequently supported by Emperor Charles IV himself, boasts a rich history and tradition. From its beginnings, when it provided shelter and care to the sick and infirm, to the present day, when it is a major provider of both outpatient and inpatient care, we can rightly count it among the jewels of Czech healthcare.
The public’s great interest in our services is both a commitment and an inspiration for us to always provide care at the highest possible level, while respecting the wishes and needs of each individual.

Who are our patients?
Our services are sought out not only by people from Prague and the surrounding area, but also from all corners of the country, including foreigners and visitors to the capital.
Most of our patients, roughly 60%, come directly from the capital, which attests to our strong position within the core network of acute care providers in Prague. Another 20% of our patients are residents of the Central Bohemian Region who seek out our services for their quality and accessibility. The remaining 20% consist of patients from various regions of the Czech Republic as well as from abroad.

Why are we unique?
Our hospital stands on foundations laid more than six centuries ago, and although medicine has changed dramatically since then, Na Františku Hospital is a living example of how a long tradition, combined with constant innovation, can create an exceptional healthcare facility.
Among Prague’s large teaching hospitals, our facility maintains its uniqueness primarily through its family-oriented approach to patients. This approach is the result of a carefully balanced combination of a small, personal environment and a unique healthcare delivery model. The hospital boasts an ideal mix of departments and expertise that work synergistically to provide patients with comprehensive and coordinated care. In areas of care that our hospital cannot provide on its own, we collaborate with university hospitals and other leading medical centers.
A few facts to wrap up
The following figures can help you get a concrete idea of the size of our medical facility. With a total of 182 beds—123 of which are designated for acute care and 59 for follow-up care—our hospital is equipped to meet our patients’ needs across a wide range of services. Each year, we perform more than 120,000 outpatient examinations, and approximately 5,000 patients are hospitalized at our facility.
We employ nearly 700 people, including top-notch doctors, nurses, physical therapists, assistants, nursing aides, and other healthcare professionals, as well as administrative staff, kitchen and cleaning staff, technical staff, and other professionals.
As part of our comprehensive range of services for our patients, Prague residents, and visitors to the city, we operate an emergency room, a dental emergency clinic, and an emergency pharmacy with a medical supply store. At the Palackého Polyclinic in Prague 1, we also operate an additional pharmacy and a blood draw site.
Our founding body is the Prague 1 City District.
