New Inpatient Rehabilitation

Opening of a New Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit
February 10, 2020

On Monday, February 10, 2020, the new inpatient rehabilitation ward at Na Františku Hospital began serving patients who have undergone musculoskeletal surgery; the ward was created through the renovation of the former neurology department. The hospital expects that it will primarily be used by patients hospitalized in the orthopedic department. The construction work, which cost approximately 8 million crowns, was funded by the Prague 1 municipal district. The hospital invested an additional 1.5 million crowns in equipment.

In the 13-bed ward, a trained team of doctors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and nurses provides comprehensive rehabilitation services. The ward is equipped with high-quality medical equipment that enables the use of various forms of physical therapy, including laser therapy.

“We provide individualized physical therapy using a wide range of techniques and focusing on each patient’s specific needs. Occupational therapy is also part of the comprehensive treatment, which focuses on training in daily activities and providing guidance on the use of assistive devices,” says Alena Nováčková, head physical therapist of the rehabilitation department.

There is a shortage of this care in the Prague region, yet starting rehabilitation early is essential for the successful recovery of patients following surgery. “In the orthopedic department, we perform surgery on approximately 15 patients per week whose medical condition requires longer and more intensive rehabilitation that cannot be provided on an outpatient basis. Until now, patients had to seek this care at other medical facilities, which was often difficult for them. Now we can offer rehabilitation services directly here to at least some of them,” explains hospital director David Erhart.

If a patient decides to undergo rehabilitation treatment at Na Františku Hospital, they should visit the inpatient rehabilitation department as soon as possible after their surgery date has been set to arrange their admission. The helpful staff will provide them with all the necessary information and give them the required documents.
