Na Františku Hospital opened an emergency dental service

A new emergency dental clinic has opened in the center of Prague. Since October, Na Františku Hospital has been providing emergency dental care. The new dental clinic operates as part of a system organized by the City of Prague.

The dental emergency clinic at Na Františku Hospital is open on weekdays from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on weekends and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The clinic operates thanks to support from the city. In June of this year, Prague city councilors approved a grant of 2.5 million crowns to equip this dental clinic and an additional 870,000 crowns for its operation. “I began addressing the shortage of dental emergency services immediately after taking office; we inherited a mess in this regard. That’s why I’m very pleased that, essentially within a few months, we managed to negotiate—in addition to the dental emergency clinic for children and adults at the Spálená health center—and, together with Prague 1 and Na Františku Hospital, we’ve now opened a new dental emergency clinic, which Prague desperately needs,” says Alexandra Udženija, Deputy Mayor of Prague for Health and Social Care.

Using a grant from the city, the hospital purchased a dental chair, a panoramic and intraoral X-ray machine, and a patient call system. The equipment for the dental office cost just under 2.2 million crowns. The hospital would like to use the 369,000 crowns it saved to purchase minor equipment for the dental office.

“I am very pleased that, thanks to our collaboration with the city government, our hospital can offer additional and much-needed care to the residents of Prague. Our goal is to provide the highest-quality and most comprehensive healthcare possible, and the dental clinic with an emergency room is another piece in the mosaic of our services,” explains Michal Müller, Prague 1 Councilor for Health.

“The opening of the dental emergency clinic at Na Františku is not only a meaningful step toward serving patients living in Prague and visitors to the city, but also an example of effective cooperation with the City of Prague and its officials,” said David Erhart, director of Na Františku Hospital.

Na Františku Hospital is a public institution operated by the Prague 1 district, where approximately 5,500 patients are hospitalized annually and another 80,000 receive outpatient care.

“As the head of dentistry at NNF, I am pleased that we have successfully launched the new dental emergency clinic right here at our hospital. I would like to thank Director David Erhart and Deputy Mayor Alexandra Udženija for securing the funding and operational conditions. An integral part of establishing an emergency clinic is assembling a professional team, and in my opinion, we have succeeded very well in this regard. It has become clear that when good conditions are in place—such as modern equipment and adequate compensation—interested doctors apply on their own, and we certainly do not suffer from a shortage of them. “I have long been involved in the operation of dental emergency services in Prague, including in the past as a member of the Health Committee of the Prague City Council, so I am pleased with the expansion of acute dental care services for Prague residents,” says Bára Malíková, head of dentistry at Na Františku Hospital.
