Na Františku Hospital is set to undergo a major investment in its emergency care system in central Prague. Over the next fourteen months, its emergency department will undergo extensive modernization, which will bring significant improvements to the facilities for both patients and medical staff. The initial phase of construction, set to begin on Monday, March 2, 2026, will focus on relocating the existing pharmacy. It will be newly situated in the immediate vicinity of the hospital entrance.
The project is being prepared by the hospital’s governing body, the Prague 1 municipal district, as part of the long-term development of the healthcare facility and the systematic improvement of the care provided. The construction work will be carried out through a public procurement process.
Smoother and more organized traffic
One of the main goals of the renovation is to eliminate a long-standing operational issue in which outpatients and ambulances were using the same hospital entrance. The new layout will separate these different operations and help ensure a smoother patient intake process.
The renovation will include the structural remodeling of the emergency department, a redesign of the layout, and the creation of modern facilities that meet current standards for acute care. The project will also include the relocation and modernization of the 24-hour emergency pharmacy and medical supply store, which will be newly established immediately adjacent to the hospital entrance and will be directly connected to the emergency department.
Modern facilities and technology
The modernization will not be limited to structural changes. Plans also include the purchase of new medical equipment, furniture, and other necessary operational facilities. The selection of contractors is taking place through a public procurement process divided into several parts. The Prague 1 municipal district is overseeing the construction work and furniture procurement, while the hospital itself will be responsible for purchasing the medical equipment.
The goal is to create a modern emergency department that meets today’s standards for fast, high-quality, and safe care for acute patients in the heart of the city.
Investing in the Future of the City Hospital
Na Františku Hospital is the only hospital in Prague operated by the local government. It has approximately 180 beds and employs around 700 staff members. Each year, approximately 5,000 patients are hospitalized at Na Františku Hospital, and another 120,000 people receive outpatient care there.
The modernization of the emergency department represents a key step in the further development of Na Františku Hospital and reaffirms the hospital’s commitment to investing in high-quality, accessible healthcare for the residents of Prague 1 and the general public.
