A professional seminar at the NNF presented current treatment options for obesity

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, a professional seminar titled “Obesity Treatment in Practice in 2026” was held in the conference hall of Na Františku Hospital. The event was organized by the hospital in collaboration with the Society for Clinical Obesity. Zentiva served as a partner for the event. The seminar was intended for healthcare professionals and focused on current treatment options for obesity as well as interdisciplinary collaboration in patient care.

The professional program was opened and moderated by Prof. Martin Matoulek, M.D., Ph.D., a leading Czech obesity specialist and endocrinologist who heads the obesity and bariatric clinic at Na Františku Hospital for patients referred for bariatric surgery. During the seminar, he discussed modern approaches to obesity treatment in recent years and presented a current perspective on the evolution of obesity issues since the COVID-19 pandemic. He also focused on the possibilities of pharmacotherapy.

Nutrition therapist Veronika Kubíková, M.A., highlighted the importance of a properly tailored diet in the treatment of obesity. In her lecture “New Developments in Weight-Loss Diets in 2026,” she focused on current recommendations for weight-loss diets and practical guidance for patients undergoing long-term lifestyle changes, including nutritional preparation before bariatric surgery and establishing a dietary regimen afterward.

Surgeon Dr. Tomáš Záhora spoke about bariatric surgery and surgical approaches to treating obesity, including the two-year results of the bariatric program at Na Františku Hospital. His presentation was followed by Dr. Barbora Englcová, who discussed the possibilities of plastic surgery following bariatric surgery, which can help patients complete their transformation after significant weight loss.

The seminar confirmed that successful obesity treatment requires a comprehensive approach and close collaboration among various specialties—from obesity specialists and surgeons to nutritionists and plastic surgeons. We would like to thank everyone who attended the seminar.
