New Breast Clinic and Care Coordinator: We Are Developing Comprehensive Care for Breast Cancer Patients

Na Františku Hospital has opened new facilities for its breast clinic, which are part of the Center for Breast Disease Treatment. The modernization of these facilities complements the comprehensive care that the center has long provided to patients with breast disease, while also strengthening the role of care coordination throughout the treatment process.

The new breast clinic is located in the same part of the hospital as before, but now occupies larger and more comfortable premises. The interior is decorated in soft cream and pink tones to create an environment that is as pleasant as possible for patients and sensitive to the nature of the care provided.

Comprehensive care at a specialized center

TheBreast Disease Treatment Centeris one of the largest facilities of its kind in the Czech Republic. It specializes in the surgical treatment of both malignant and benign breast tumors and provides patients with comprehensive care across various medical specialties. In addition to the breast clinic, the center also includes an oncology clinic, a genetic clinic providing preventive and follow-up care for carriers of hereditary gene mutations, particularly BRCA1 and BRCA2, and a plastic surgery clinic focused on breast reconstruction following treatment for breast cancer.

Care coordination as an important part of treatment

An integral part of patient care is also treatment coordination, which is provided by care coordinator Markéta Zrubecká, B.A., within the oncology and breast cancer outpatient clinic.

“I guide patients through the entire process—from their first visit to the clinic, through follow-up appointments, all the way to the end of treatment. I help them navigate the flood of information, schedule tests, and communicate with their doctors. They can call us anytime during office hours,” says Markéta Zrubecká, describing her work.

The care coordinator also helps patients navigate this difficult situation, facilitates communication among various specialists, and ensures that treatment proceeds smoothly. This support also includes collaboration with patient organizations, such as the Alliance of Women with Breast Cancer or the Bellis project.

Linking Coordination and Health Care

However, Markéta Zrubecká’s role on the breast clinic team goes beyond simply coordinating care; it also involves providing direct medical care. She works as a registered nurse at the hospital, which allows her to build close personal relationships with patients while also having a deep understanding of their medical conditions. This enables her to be a true source of support for them throughout their treatment.
