Dr. Zdeněk Šebesta is the chief of the surgical department at Na Františku Hospital. He has been working at the hospital since 1994. From 2005, he served as the head physician of the surgical department, and until May 2025, he served as the deputy chief of the department.
In his surgical practice, he specializes primarily in proctology and minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery. For many years, he has led the proctology team at Na Františku Hospital. His work in this field is closely linked to the introduction of the Long method for hemorrhoid surgery and the STARR method (stapled rectal resection) into clinical practice 25 years ago. The cohort of patients treated with this method is among the largest in the entire Czech Republic. He regularly trains surgeons from other hospitals in these surgical methods—over the years, more than 350 physicians have undergone this training.
