The shift from traditional invasive abdominal surgery to minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery is expanding and transforming surgeons’ approaches to a wide range of surgical procedures and, in some cases, introducing entirely new surgical techniques.
Laparoscopic surgeryrepresents a significant change for our patients compared to traditional techniques. Many procedures performed in the abdominal cavity are now considered the gold standard in surgical techniques. Today, it is no exaggeration to say that most procedures can be performed using minimally invasive techniques.
Minimally invasive surgeryplaces higher financial demands on equipment, instruments, and the surgeon’s expertise. The clear benefits for the patient include a gentler procedure, reduced surgical stress, a shorter hospital stay, and a shorter overall recovery time. Minimally invasive procedures result in less postoperative pain and a reduction in postoperative complications. It is also worth noting the cosmetic benefits of the procedure, which leave only minimal scars compared to the traditional approach, as well as a lower incidence of postoperative hernias.
Our department offers a wide range of minimally invasive procedures, which are also listed in the other tabs. Since minimally invasive procedures can be performed in virtually every field of surgery, it would be a mistake to mention laparoscopic surgeries only on this page.
In gastroenterological surgery, the most common elective procedure is laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In acute care, on the other hand, laparoscopic removal of an inflamed appendix is common. Other abdominal surgeries include laparoscopic procedures for adhesions, surgeries for inflammatory and non-inflammatory bowel diseases, surgeries for colorectal cancer, hernia repairs, fundoplication, and bariatric surgeries. All of these procedures can be performed using minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques or through open surgery (incision).
Our other pages provide more detailed information about specific procedures and diagnoses.
The continuous modernization of our instruments and equipment goes without saying. Thanks to investments from our founding organization and grant programs, we always have the most advanced equipment at our disposal, which enables us to safely perform the laparoscopic surgeries we plan and enhances the comfort of our surgeons.
In the field of abdominal surgery, we perform the following laparoscopic procedures, for example:
- gallbladder
- appendix
- abdominal adhesions
- stomach conditions, including inflammatory and non-inflammatory diseases, gastroesophageal reflux disease, ulcers, and cancer
- the small intestine for inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions, polyps, ulcers, and cancer
- the colon for inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions, diverticulitis, and cancer
- Emergency surgery for acute abdominal conditions caused by various factors (intestinal obstruction, perforated ulcer, ruptured diverticulum, strangulated hernia, etc.)—provided that such surgery is safe for the patient and technically feasible
